beesI really like the idea of Unit Studies when it comes to homeschooling. I stumbled upon another great resource and the best part is they are mom’s like you and I trying to get it all together… next best part, they got it all together for us!!! If you are looking for something to get you through the time until you officially start the school year then this is even more so for you! They have lots of Unit’s to look at and now they are doing it as a package deal download and it’s FREE!

Dinner Day, every day?

I absolutely love FOOD! I love to eat, I enjoy cooking and experimenting. I just dread having to cook everyday (sigh). Where we live the temperature can get up there and with the heat sometimes eating is the farthest away from your mind, or what I planned on cooking just doesn’t fit the bill. I’m curious how do you plan meals and what do you do in those moments you don’t feel like cooking.

Many inspiring Home Making Momma’s suggest preparing meals ahead of time and freezing them. I agree! Tho my husband has a serious complex against this. Please include yourself in my poll so we can hear what mom’s are doing.

Also please feel free to leave a comment 🙂

This year we are first time homeschoolers of a Kindergarten aged child. There are so many resources out there I thought I would take time to write about some of the great people whom have shared internet resources out there for people like me and non-first time homeschoolers who may want to make some changes in their curriculum or get more organized.

My latest find that I wanted to share with you (please check my profile as I will update that with other resources that I like for homeschooling), is Donna Young’s website. Before we all go clicking on the link I’m about to provide please let me share why I like this site and why she seems like someone not worthy!

Donna Young started this site in 1998 when she got a computer that she could get online (back in those days it was something new, funny to think). She was a homeschooling mom that thought she would organize herself on the computer. This is when she started the site. She makes all of her own forms, and helps. It’s really exciting to think that she does this all herself and shares with us fellow homeschoolers.

If your like me I have a calendar posted everywhere. When you are a Home Making Momma it’s easy to lose the concept of time when you don’t have to keep track of where the weekend is going to begin other than the joy of your spouse being home. For us here in our home my husband works odd days and it’s just simply difficult to keep track of. There are a slew of organizers to print off this site.

Please enjoy! Leave a comment of what you thought of her page and if you have a page to suggest that would be of benefit to a homeschooling mom out there or a working momma who wants to help do her thing at home to supplement the children’s education.

Getting prepared

Family Logistics

Tho I do not have a “large family” we are a family of four. I picked up this amazing book when browsing a homeschool sale put on my www.visionforum.com

This book has been such a blessing to me as a Christian, Wife, Mother, Disciplinarian, Homemaker, Cook, etc. It addresses everything and really makes you think! Kim Brenneman has hit topics that you didn’t even think of to make your life easier as a Home Making Momma!  She has inspired me with her methods that are helping her successfully raise NINE children, and she gives us allot to think about when she uses Scripture to help us understand. Please check out her blog http://largefamilylogistics.blogspot.com/ she is sure to inspire you! Please enjoy!

Did you say Cake Batter Rice Crispy Treat’s?

When I found this recipe I knew it was a must to take note of! I didn’t know there was other ways to mix up Rice Crispy Treat Fun. 🙂

Ali at Gimme some oven shared this on her blog.

Enjoy! Please leave a comment 🙂

Cake Batter Rice Krispies Recipe
(From How Sweet Eats) Here is the direct link: http://www.howsweeteats.com/2011/02/cake-batter-crispy-treats/

  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 (10 oz.) bag of mini-marshmallows
  • 1/4 cup yellow cake mix
  • 6 cups crispy rice cereal
  • 1 (1.75 oz.) container of sprinkles

Melt butter in a large saucepan over low heat and add marshmallows. Stir until they begin to melt, adding in cake mix one spoonful at a time so its combined. Stir in cereal so it is completely coated with marshmallow mixture. Sprinkle in half of the sprinkles and mix. Press into a baking dish (any size will do) and top with remaining sprinkles. Let sit for about 30 minutes before cutting. I find spraying a knife with nonstick spray helps to cut them.

Character Camp

I really like the idea of teaching Character when it comes to homeschool! I stumbled upon this great book and really suggest it to all those whom are trying to teach little ones habits/character. I included this post under parenting because it also helps address some of the behavioral issues children may have.

“Only God Himself fully appreciates the influence of a Christian mother in the molding of character in her children.” Billy Graham

My daughter and I have been doing what we have started calling Character Camp! The pages of this book are very short including 2-3 pages. They address things like: “Obedience, Patience, Honesty, gratefulness and Respectfulness” and that’s a few. The children enjoy the short definition that they can relate to and the scripture used for reference. They really like that these are stories about REAL children (pictured on the cover). As I said above it helps with behavioral issues that arise with raising children it also helps teach us as parents ways of communicating with our children about the things that are expected/needed of them.

Kate Boyter Brown and Marilyn Boyer are a mother daughter team who put this great read together about these cousins. They have helped our family out allot! TWO THUMBS UP.
Homeschooling ideas: This has been nice to break up and work on one character trait a few days at a time. My daughter talks to me about the trait throughout the day and after we have read about one subject such as obedience for example she illustrates a picture of the story we read about.
This is a method that really works with our children.  Please leave a comment below and tell me what you think about teaching Character, if you have read the book, or if you are interested in learning more. 🙂

(Please continue reading as recent posts are to follow Home Making Momma’s Welcome Note)

Welcome! Thank you for stopping in. Grab a cup of tea, give the kids some crayons and coloring books and let’s get to know each other. Mom to mom.

I am a proud stay at home mom of two beautiful little ladies! I have discovered that well… I’m found to be strange. Strange? Yes, I know it’s bold to say! But it’s strange that Mothers are frowned down for wanting to stay at home and raise their children, granted I know we all can’t… I’ve been there too! But that if we choose to do so were looked down upon. That society doesn’t support us for wanting to be here to teach our children, to have fun making home cooked meals, to be “okay” with the accepting this “homemaker” title and allowing us to be okay with it. AND INDULGE IN THE TITLE!!!

I have decided to create this Blog for mothers who stay at home or those who don’t/cant and need some inspiration. We all are mothers and we need to support each other and inspire each other. Here you will find:

Books that help, Homeschooling helps for newbies (This will be our first year… follow our journey), recipes, cleaning ideas, marital fun, recipes, How To’s to get the children involved… and all those hot topics that help us as Home Making  Momma’s!!!

Please take part in our poll!
